Happy National Margarita Day gang – not that I ever need an excuse to knock up (or knock back!) a cocktail or two…
When it comes to margaritas, my one piece of advice is to always, ALWAYS, choose a good quality tequila if you don’t want it tasting like the naff 2 for 1 you used to get down at the student union back in the day!
I love Don Julio or Herradura tequilas and in fact, I would be happy to sip these neat over the course of an evening, they are that delicious.
A good drink should have you feeling all kinds of fabulous (at least until the morning after!), so it’s quite fitting that the classic margarita was apparently invented by a bartender back in 1938, in honour of Mexican showgirl Rita de la Rosa.
My inner showgirl definitely makes an appearance after a few of these…
To make your own at home:
1. Pour the Tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, and lime juice into a cocktail shaker.
2. Add a handful of ice cubes and shake hard for 10-15 seconds.
3.Strain into a Martini glass with half the rim damped with water, then dipped in salt.
4. Garnish with lime wheel
