A Rustic Tipi Beach Wedding…
Today we share with you the wedding of Laura and Andy who got married in Branscombe, Devon. What I love about this rustic beach wedding is the number of fab DIY elements; from the homemade stationery to the wedding cake, each layer was a gift from a different friend or sister.

Here Rosie the photographer tells as a bit about the couple, then Laura the bride tells us about her day and what made it so special…

I loved Andy and Laura’s approach to their wedding. There was a strong sense of family and they were a very creative crowd with so many people contributing to the wedding in different ways. For example at their Humanist service Laura’s Dad played piano whilst her mum and siblings sand a song they had had written especially for them as a surprise!
As a wedding photographer I get to attend lots of different ceremonies – this one felt especially meaningful.
Each layer of their wedding cake was made by someone different and assembled on the day. I liked the fact they were happy to trust their friends and family to pull it off for them with out getting caught up in the detail – this meant they could really focus on the important stuff.
What were the couple’s requirements…
Andy and Laura wanted the day captured in a fun and unobtrusive way. With nice details and some lovely couple shots.
Favourite details of the day…
I loved the fact Laura turned up in a Nissan Micra and that she bought her dress from Oxfam.
Also each of their guests had a hand drawn place card which meant represented something about them – must have taken ages!!
Favourite moment of the day…
When the whole congregation sang ‘ Elton Johns ‘ – My song – at the top of their voices! Best wedding moment ever. It was amazing!

Briefly how you met and got engaged…
We actually met thanks to Guardian Soulmates, both expecting a fun date or two out of it, not a marriage! We got engaged on a beach in north Devon, one of our favourite spots, where Andy snuck off and wrote in the sand ‘Laura, will you marry me?’. What a charmer…
What was your theme for the wedding day…
Well given how the engagement happened, it just had to be a beach theme! We looked at a lot of official wedding venues but in the end decided to create our own, somewhere more unique and personal. The most important thing for us was that the day felt relaxed and fun, and as much about our family and friends coming together as it was about us.

Favourite part of the day…
So many favourite moments, it’s hard to choose! Probably the walk from the ceremony to the reception, through stunning countryside down to the beach, with all of our friends and family together.
Special details from the day…
We wanted to give our guests lots of fun things to do! So we had a big trunk of beach games, a wedding quiz when people sat down to eat, and a picture to paint, where every guest got to paint a different square.
What was it like working with your photographer…
Rosie was great. Really took time to get to know us beforehand. On the day she was not at all intrusive and yet somehow captured every little detail.
Advice to any couples about to get married…
Just do whatever works for you as a couple. From the humanist ceremony to the tipi on the beach, we knew our wedding was going to be slightly unusual, and some people had their doubts that it would work out! But we just loved every minute and, from their feedback, our guests loved it too.
