Jen & Rebecca from The Wedding Spark…

We worked with Sarah from Sprigs and Stems to create a shoot that really put colour to the fore, and showcased that an elegant bridal look can still be playful and fun. Our bold and bright palette was inspired by a Mexican fiesta, and we added some cheeky handpainted skulls to the décor as an homage to the Day of the Dead festival.

We collaborated with a brilliant team of super-talented people who totally understood our quest for colour.

Ringshall Grange in Suffolk was the perfect venue – full of quirky touches and with enough punchy feature walls to make our colourful dreams come true.

Add in swoonworthy dip-dyed gowns, tropical blooms and foliage, a showstopping five-tiered cake, giant balloons and bright smoke bombs, and you’ve got yourself a party!

Today’s wedding is colourful, fun and filled with personal touches! The epic Boiler House in Cardiff, run by MMU suppliers Alternative Events, provides an awesome backdrop with professional graffiti adorning the walls. A really unique space for an alternative wedding!

Tell us how you met and got engaged…

We met through boredom!  We lived in separate flats in the same block of flats in Cardiff Bay – our flat mates were mutual friends, but we had never met one another.  When both our flat mates went away on holiday, we were separately exchanging texts with them saying how bored we were.  Tanya’s flat mate, Bexs, suggested she drop in on me to say ‘hi’.  Tanya did just that… the following weekend we went out for drinks and the rest is history!

We got engaged whilst on a group holiday in Ibiza – we were out there to celebrate our friends’ joint birthday.  Whilst we were there it was our 5 year anniversary.  David booked the ‘Amante Table’ experience at the gorgeous, beachside Amante Restaurant, near Santa Eularia.  We had our own little beach hut away from the main restaurant and had the most amazing 5 course meal.  The waitress brought my …

Drum Roll Please….

For those who have been waiting patiently for the online version of our new Spring/ Summer 2017 magazine to go live… well today is the day!!

As always our online magazine celebrates the work of our amazing suppliers, and features some of their favourite work, inspiration and creativity. Each edition is full to the brim of unique ideas and great advice; perfect for couples that need a little guidance when planning their big day.

This edition features 5 real weddings, 4 bridal shoots, 4 recipes and DIYs, an interview with the incredible Tattooed Bakers and 3 advice pieces on how to plan your wedding!

It takes FOREVER to put together the magazine each season and its probably one of the biggest projects we do over the year…  but its always such a joy to see our suppliers at work, the couples they get to meet and the knowledge they are happy to share.

Lucy Can’t Dance is a bespoke dressmaker specialising in quirky dresses for non-traditional brides. Experimenting with laces and colour techniques to give you exciting, elegant and unique wedding dress design.

Lucy loves bold laces, dip dye silk skirts, breathtaking back details and buttons. All of Lucy’s dresses are handmade in her studio. Colours and details can be altered to suit your style and vision.

I’ve been working and designing the new collection for the past 6 months. I love lace so I searched the globe looking for exciting new fabrics. I have also been experimenting with different dyes and colour techniques to give you some interesting new ideas to spice up the traditional Ivory wedding dress.

A lot of things have inspired me while designing the collection. I am always a lover of vintage clothing and some of these designs definitely have a 1920’s feel to them. My love of lace gives the dresses a fresh bohemian vibe.

The sea is a destructive yet beautiful force…

We have something a little different for you today…Brought to us by Mr & Mrs Unique supplier, Rebecca Douglas Photography, this nautical bridal shoot was inspired by the myth of ‘The Siren’ – beautiful, yet deadly creatures whom are said to lure sailors to shipwreck with their enchanting music and voices.

In the Summer of 2016, I was asked to be a part of a creative project with the theme of deconstruction. I worked with a team of local creatives who specialise in hair, make-up and bridal fashion to create unique pieces for a local art exhibition.

I have always lived by the sea; it has been my home and it constantly fascinates and amazes me. From the ferocity of the waves to the wonders of the fairytales and mythology surrounding the vast scape. One myth I decided to focus on was that of ‘The Siren’ which first appeared in Homers ‘The Odyssey’; beautiful, yet deadly creatures whom are said to lure sailors to shipwreck with their enchanting music and voices.

I design stationery for couples who like something a bit different! I have a range of existing designs that can be altered to suit their wedding colours and wording. I spend most of my time working on the illustrated designs. This can be anything the couple wants! From an illustrated portrait, pets, flowers, wedding venue and their favourite things in life…literally anything!

What made you start up the business…

Emmy Designs was started by myself (Emma) when my sister got married a few years ago. As maid of honour to the bride, it was my job to help take some of the pressure off and help her to plan the big day. I was in my element! As a trained photographer and with many weddings in my portfolio, I had an idea of what made a successful wedding day. Of course I didn’t want to photograph the wedding and miss out on bridesmaid duties, but I wanted to help out in any other way possible! …

We are a French husband and English wife team and we have a vintage Renault Estafette food truck called Marie-Antoinette. We are known for serving sweet crêpes, savoury galettes and delicious French desserts.

What made you start up La Crêpe Franglaise…

Early in Michel’s career he worked as a chef at a ski resort in The Alps serving crêpes to holiday makers. He saw the possibility of bringing fabulous crêpes back to England and the opportunity to run his own business. Finally twenty years and several trials and tribulations later, we made his dream come true and bought our little van.

Why you love this wedding…

I loved that they took all the normal wedding traditions but made them their own. It was completely personal. From the couple making sure their dogs could be present for the ceremony to their book inspired wedding cake. There was an element of the couple’s personality in every part of the day.

What were the couple’s requirements…

The couple wanted something relaxed and had both mentioned they were not keen on having their photos taken. More than anything Emma & Peter wanted a photographer who would fit in on the day and document the story. Elmore Court to Host Mayfair…

Documenting Our Journey…

Back in April my husband Lee and I attended the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza in Birmingham and much to my delight my stand was put in the same room as my friend Laura from Babb Photo. Laura is not only super lovely (as is her other half Pete), she is also an incredible wedding photographer; one of Range Finders Top 30 Wedding Photographers in the world 2016 … now that’s some accolade to have under your belt!

As day one at the wedding fair came to a close, we grabbed the opportunity to have some photos with Laura. At first we were a little nervous and it seemed a bit strange; we’ve been married nearly 10 years and most couple shoots are for pre-wedding! Documentary, creative wedding photography wasn’t even really a ‘thing’ back when we got married, so to have time with Laura who is a total pro at this style, made us feel at ease and finally gave us the opportunity to have some photos to hang on our walls at home.

It got me thinking; should it feel strange to have some new professional photos of us together, even 10 years into our marriage? I guess the answer is, it shouldn’t be. Photos taken on your mobile phone and shared on social media is one …

Today we get to share with you a vibrant Cuban inspired styled bridal shoot put together by the awesome winners of 2016 Four Counties Wedding Awards, organised by founder Tracy Butterfield. Over to Tracey to tell us more…

After being frozen in time for five decades, Cuba is opening its exotic door to the world. As one of the biggest new trends; the countries bold colours and bohemian vibe will filter across wedding themes; perfect for couples looking for something unique. Paired with Pantone Colour of the Year Greenery and the influx of ferns, it was a no-brainer!

Only meeting briefly at the Wedding Awards Gala in November all suppliers embraced the concept and major effort was made. The sun shone and salsa music played. With the backdrop of the rustic barn and the river, a fun, colourful look was created that shows the unity of different cultures and traditions including the money dance, needed more so now than ever. A Chic & Stylish London Wedding…

Happy Wednesday Folks!

Got a lovely wedding for you today; a stylish, colourful London celebration which was captured by the lovely Binky Nixon Photography.

With tons of cool handmade details and some wicked Foxes masks, its a beautiful wedding in the big smoke!

Was there any theme or inspiration for your wedding day?

There was no theme as such, but we are both designers, so I wanted there to be an element of that shown in the table settings. Each person had a different coloured Pantone card with their menu choices on and they were edged with copper – a colour that we used on our wedding stationary and throughout the wedding.

How did you find love?

We met at the Royal College of Art, London while we were studying for our Masters.

How did you try to make your day unique?

I tried to make it as unique to us as possible by designing and making as much of what we needed/wanted myself. This included the wedding stationary, the bouquet, the flower girls’ tutu’s, the button holes, the flower plank that hung from the beams, all the flowers in the venue, the table settings, the large snack jars, the kids treat bags and ice cream jars and the wedding cakes… I think I maybe …

A Sneak Peek at our Competition Winners…

A couple of months ago the lovely Francesca from Francesca Secolonovo Photography ran a competition with Mr & Mrs Unique for one lucky couple to win their wedding photography. Winners would also get a engagement shoot; this was so they could meet up beforehand and get use to being in front of the camera.

When Anneka & Stephan emailed us to tell us about their wedding plans, we knew we had to pick them as winners of the competition! We loved their ideas of a horse box bar,  homemade burger trailer, a rock band, all wrapped up with with tropical/boho theme (literally cant wait to see the outcome!)

They decided to meet Francesca for their pre wedding shoot at Brixton Skate Park as they both love the bmx and skateboarding scene… turned out to be just the perfect location for them!
