Tell us how you met and got engaged…
We met in Australia, Simon was living in Bondi with some mutual friends. Simon then moved to work at a cattle ranch in central Queensland, Elena went to visit him for a couple of weeks and stayed for 5 months. We’ve been travelling and living together ever since.
We got engaged at home, just the two of us, where Simon presented an engagement ring made from an opal mined in Queensland Australia, the place our story began.
What were your main hopes for the day…
For everyone to enjoy themselves with delicious food and drinks. We were inspired to have a wedding that used as many local businesses and resources as possible. We were keen to have a wedding that had a small environmental impact and wanted to use small businesses and charities as much as possible, rather than huge corporations. We used all biodegradable plates, cutlery and cups producing just two bags of ladfill waste for the entire day and evening.

What made you start up the business…
I’ve been a freelance illustrator and print designer for nearly 4 years. I also create bespoke wedding stationery and so when a bride asked if I could also paint on her leather jacket back in June I jumped at the chance!

Dot & Harry is named after my two Grandparents on my mother’s side, they met during World War Two and were in love from then until they passed away five years ago. My Grandad worked as an RAF engineer and my Nannie worked in the factory that built the parts he needed to fix the planes. They came from a generation where love, (and planes) were built to last and through thick and thin they remained besotted with each other for over 60 years. They were never wealthy, never big career people with fancy possessions. They led a simple lifestyle and the love of each other and their family was wealth enough for them. Tipi Garden Wedding…
Spring has certainly sprung and what better way to welcome the sunny, warmer days ahead than with a gorgeous, flower filled wedding! Featuring Mr & Mrs Unique suppliers, World Inspired Tents, awesome Tipis!
The stunning Tipi reception was held in Zoe’s parents own garden and was filled to the brim with fabulous plants and floral arrangements, finished off with vintage touches and personal details.
Zoe & Ben…
The marriage was held at All Saints Church, Long Ashton where the ceremony was taken by our good friend Clive who ensured an entertaining service with some tricks thrown in to ensure a joyful and fun filled tone was set for the day.
We worked all summer from dawn until dusk to ensure the grounds at Zoe’s parents home were ready to host our dream reception – the gardens were full of blooming plants and flowers, the outside bar was filled with our favourite drinks and the week before piglets were born providing added entertainment for our guests.
We wanted a rustic, vintage feel surrounded by fabulous flowers. We had pinewood tables, benches and folding chairs, reindeer and sheep skins, rope fairy lights, festoon lights, an open fire, a dance floor, chill out furnishings, matting and dimmable lighting – Small details and tiny touches left no stone unturned and …

Today we have a super fun, trendy styled shoot to share with you! Wild flower arrangements and natural textures teamed with contemporary glassware and acrylic decals brings a unique, modern twist.

The inspiration behind it was to make it a bit fun and different than the usual pale, pastel colour palette.
The idea was to match the bright colours with contemporary stripes which not only toned down the bright colours but added a sleek and stylish look to the shoot.
The venue was perfect with the lovely textures of the natural wooden tables with contemporary and coloured brick work styled walls.
The table lined with a handmade black and white striped runner, styling with items such as the modern clean cut glass tea light holders and glass candlesticks created the modern/ contemporary look which worked perfectly with the wild, vintage bouquet and flowers. The vintage florals modernised by the modern straight lines on the Black and White table runner.
I had some white calligraphy decals made by Nineteen to create the acrylic menus and place names. This was my favourite part of the shoot. I’d seen this before and wanted to create it as I see this being an up and …

I find nature so beautiful, I love the Arcadian landscaped gardens at Endsleigh Hotel they are stunning, and I love flowers, so I wanted to use very simple wedding dresses to accentuate the bold tropical flowers and stunning backdrop of the gardens.
I photograph a lot of styled photo shoots, and have always wanted to do something using the styled I like which was more elegant and simple. Being the photographer you don’t usually get involved in the planning process of styled photo shoots. I was planning my wedding at the time so had been looking around quite a bit for bridal inspiration, and had so many ideas for wedding themes.
I also wanted to use ethnic models becuase I feel they are rarely featured in bridal magazines and blogs, and I have so many African and Asian friends who want to get married and they find it hard to find bridal inspiration.

The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza… What went down….

The EWE wedding fair in Birmingham…
Right, I’m back in the room… and what an amazing weekend its been!
For those who don’t know, this past weekend was The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza (EWE) held at The Bond in Birmingham. It promised to be a weekend full of unique, alternative and kick-ass wedding suppliers and it certainly delivered!
I was there to spread the Mr & Mrs Unique love as their media sponsor and to also give out some of our new Spring/Summer Magazines to the awesome couples we met over the two days.
The EWE fair was certainly one of the best wedding fairs I’ve been too; there was a real fun, community feel about the event, plus there was so much going on with over 60 epic stands, workshops, catwalk parades, live music, cool DJ sets and not forgetting the delicious street food on offer.
A huge thank you to Jo, Sassy and Yasmin who put it together, to Jay Emme for the photos and to all the amazing suppliers who took part- what a creative, awesome bunch you are! Till next time :)
